Erosion of Taughannock Falls

Go to the following website to read about the weathering and erosion of the Taughannock Falls in the Finger Lake Region of NYS. This particular area has ongoing weathering and erosion of the sedimentary rock that lines the sides of the falls. There have been several incidents over the past few years involving close calls with onlookers and even one fatality. Move your mouse over the photo of the picture of the falls to see the before and after photo of the actual event. The picture below shows a smaller view of the the before and after photos.

  1. that's kinda scary how sedimentary rock that is behind a waterfall can just break off into pieces and fall like that. isn't it dangerous? and if a larger piece broke off, would it change the water level, or is this lake large enough to accommodate?

ooooh. wow thats is a big piece of rock. And the aftermath of it is pretty unseen unless someone points it out. Definitely would've been cool to see that happen

  3. its sad how erosion is taking some of the earth and leaving it with parts taken off. its lik having the entire earth erosionated (is that a word?)and having half the world gone
